2. Area 51 Uncensored: Was it UFOs or the USSR?
Seventy-five miles north of Las Vegas sits a land parcel in the middle of the desert. Called Area 51, the parcel is just outside of the abandoned Nevada Test and Training Range, where more than 100 atmospheric bomb tests were conducted in the 1950s. Officially, the U.S. government has never acknowledged the existence of Area 51. Unofficially, it has become a place associated with conspiracy theories, alien landings and tiny spaceships. Welcome to Social Studies 10: Second Semester

Teacher: Ms. Kate Arnold ss10 syllabus.pdf

I don't have my own room, so if you need to talk to me outside of class find me in the Social Studies office before school (except on Tuesdays), after school, or during 2nd and 3rd block. I teach in the science wing during 7th block, so if you need me at the end of the day you can come down to 1818.

During the second semester of SS10 we are going to practice thinking and reading like historians. This means asking and answering meaningful questions about the past, and carefully analyzing primary sources to help us. Two perennial questions (questions that come up year after year, just like perennial flowers) that will guide our learning are :

Why do we fight wars with other countries?
What is the proper role of government, when should government act and when should it be limited?
